Valley Electric Association, Inc. (VEA) has an immediate opening for MANAGER OF ENGINEERING to work in our headquarters located in Pahrump, Nevada. 

VEA is a member-owned nonprofit electric utility with a history of strong community ties and innovative accomplishments.

VEA provides service to more than 45,000 people in a 6,800-square-mile service area located primarily along the California-Nevada border, with the majority in Nevada. The service area starts in Sandy Valley, Nevada, southwest of Las Vegas and extends north more than 250 miles to Fish Lake Valley, Nevada.

VEA provides service to over 24,000 services with 2,120 line miles of distribution facilities and 16 substations. VETA, a wholly-owned subsidiary of VEA, is a transmission cooperative association providing service to VEA and other entities. VETA currently has over 350 miles of 230/138 kV transmission facilities.

VEA recently added to its members two high-profile federal government facilities in Nevada, the Nevada National Security Site and Creech Air Force Base. VEA is also the first utility outside of California to participate in the California Independent System Operator Corporation (California ISO) balancing authority.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:  The Manager of Engineering is responsible for the overall planning and design, performance, and functions of engineering for the Cooperative. Performs diversified engineering, lands and administrative duties that require technical knowledge of electrical, civil, and mechanical applications.

Education: Candidate is required to have a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or related Engineering degree. Professional certification or the ability to obtain such registration highly preferred.

Experience: A minimum of ten years related cooperative industry engineering management experience required for this position. Experience with electric utilities, information technology systems and telecommunications systems. Alternative equivalencies to this experience may be considered appropriate and acceptable at the discretion of executive management.

Knowledge: This position requires the application of engineering theory and practice in carrying out its responsibilities. An understanding of the National Electrical Safety Code and other related regulations is required.
