Job Details

Gainesville Regional Utilities, the 5th largest municipal electric utility in Florida, seeks an Engineer IV for the Work and Resource Management Division who will perform high level, independent, professional and technical work with a focus on Gas Utility Distribution Systems Planning. The primary attribute of this position will include knowledge of planning industry standard gas utility distribution systems.  The successful candidate will be required to support a wide variety of large and small projects, both as an individual contributor and team project leader.


To be considered for this position you must possess a Bachelor degree in Engineering from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited educational institute and eight (6) years of experience in the planning of major natural gas or petroleum projects.  Preference will be given to candidates with a Bachelor or Master degree in Chemical, Petroleum, Environmental or Geological Engineering from an accredited educational institution. A valid U.S. Driver License is required at the time of hire; a valid Florida Driver License is required within 30 days of start date.

The ideal candidate will have experience or certification in the following areas:

• Thorough and complete understanding of complex gas distribution designs and permits.  Extensive experience in large gas utility capital projects a must. Knowledge and understanding of gas gate, gas pit and gas regulating stations highly desirable.
• Complete and thorough understanding of the design and preparation of gas engineering work orders, construction drawings and basic understanding of GIS gas utility design software programs.  

• Understanding of gas utility distribution construction methods, materials and procedures.
 • Understanding of job costs, materials costs, labor costs and complete cradle to grave gas engineering job packets and work orders.
• Proficient in software systems to manage planning and scheduling of work for both capital projects and maintenance.
•Good understanding of PHMSA, FERC, Florida Administrative Code and other applicable codes and local ordinances including rules, regulations and guidelines established by local, state and federal regulatory agencies.
• Knowledge of mathematics, piping and pressure principles, petroleum chemicals and physical science as applied to gas utilities
• Good organizational and communication skills, with a proven ability to solicit input and support of others at various levels in an organization.
*Ability to work closely and build working relationships with other internal utility/City personnel, public and private agencies throughout the community and other utilities throughout the state.
